Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

Last Saturday we stopped at Trader Joe's in Madison for a few necessities (and a few indulgences). Although I rarely buy cut flowers, I'm always tempted by their beautiful, reasonably priced bouquets. And when I saw they had small bunches of daffodils for only $1.69, I couldn't resist.

Here are the daffodils on Sunday:

Monday:

And ... drum roll please ... Tuesday:

Ta da!

The skies may be grey outside, but inside the sun is shining, and whiffs of April are drifting through the dining room.

Not bad for $1.69.

  1. I got sunshine, on a cloudy day, and when it's cold outside, I've got the month of May. I guess, you'd say ... Oh! Sorry! Got carried away. :)

  3. That tune will be stuck in my head for a long while now. :-) Once I had "Mack the Knife" in my head for over a month!

    I LOVE a happy bargain.

  4. Love daffodils, mine haven't done as well this year as I would have liked. I need to divide them and plant more.

  7. Try again but in smaller (hopefully)
      Daffodils

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
    A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
    They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
    In such a jocund company:
    I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
    Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
    And dances with the daffodils.

  8. I could have just picked the last two lines, but it wouldn't be the same....

I have a friend who until quite recently thought that daffs were only available in Wales, I do think they belong to us really!! Although what I base that on, I'm not sure.

Sorry to now have done four comments.....

  9. As a Welsh woman, it cheered me to see your Daffodils on our very own Saint David's day, 1st March. As we say in Wales Dydd Gŵyl Dewi hapus - happy Saint David's day.

  10. Not a bad smile-creator for the price! I saw some blue orchids in the grocery store the other day, and it took everything I had to leave them there! (They were not such a great bargain.) These daffodils are so much livelier just because of the color! Well, and the symbolism of spring...

  11. They're brilliant aren't they? So much colour and happiness (and the smell, I love that sharp-sweet smell) for so little money. I always feel *really* self-indulgent buying myself cut flowers, even though I only get the cheapest the supermarket has to offer but in winter it's worth it for the psychological effect.
